Updated REST API Libraries for Tableau Server 9.2

Our REST API libraries are being released with major updates that allow the libraries to work across any version of Tableau Server 9.x.  We have enhanced the libraries with functionality that works on 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3.  The 1.0.6 libraries can now determine the version of Tableau Server that you are running automatically and then provides access to all of the features that version can offer.

We also updated the libraries to use a single login for each session which increases the speed of the libraries significantly.  No functionality was removed or depricated with this version.

  • Added auto detection of Tableau REST API versions so that library works with any version of Tableau 9.x through 9.3
  • Added new Groups functions to the library (new in 9.2)
  • Enhanced Permissions for new Project Permissions (new in 9.2)
  • Enhanced Publishing of Workbook and Datasources (new in 9.2)
  • Enhanced REST API (signin) function to only fire once per session.

Updated REST API Libraries 1.0.5

After several months of development and updates, we are happy to release the final version of the REST API Libraries for Java and .Net.  These libraries now contain example code for each of the functions available and we have successfully tested the libraries using Tableau Server 9.0.6.  Please let us know if you experience any problems with these new versions.

We are now hard at work on the 1.1.0 versions of the libraries that will include new features for Tableau Server 9.1 and 9.2 which include new enhancements to the REST API.  Version 1.1.0 of the REST Libraries will be able to auto detect the version of Tableau Server that it is connecting to and will adjust accordingly.  The current version of these libraries only support 9.0.x functionality however they will run under 9.1 and 9.2 without errors.

NEW Comment Feedback System! Tell us what you think.

Up until now, the only way that you could provide feedback for any of our Products or Blog posts was by sending us an email.  While we have enjoyed getting all of the emails from people, we wanted a better method of allowing public collaboration on our site.  In light of that desire, we have released our new commenting system on both Blog Posts and also Product pages.  Please feel free to post your feedback here and we will share it with the community.

Our system is new, so please let us know if you have any problems.  You can also signup to receive email notifications when  new comments are added to this thread.

Introducing the Tableau REST API Libraries

We have released our first FREE product. Use our Tableau REST API Library to speed your development project and save yourself hours of work.

New in Version 1.0

We have wrapped the Tableau REST API with our advanced helper functions. Rather than writing your own code to handle the REST API XML, just include our libraries in your project and access all of the functionality with a single line of code. .Net, Java, PHP, Python code libraries with the same function names for easy access.

Our Contribution to Business Intelligence

Welcome to our very first Blog post. We are excited to have launched our new website and are looking forward to launching our first Free product in the next few weeks.

Our goal is to create easy to use tools for the Business Intelligence market. We have extensive experience working in the BI space and many vendors are missing critical tools that are essential for enterprise deployments. We try to fill the gap whenever we find an important tool missing.

Starting with Tableau

While we plan to cover other BI tools in the future, our initial focus is on the Tableau Self Service Analytics platform. Here are some of the primary items that we are going to focus our efforts on.

  • Create a library that wraps the Tableau REST API to make it easier to work with.
  • Create administrative tools to fill the gap of missing functionality for the enterprise marketplace.
  • Create a community that offers support for important BI topics around Tableau.

As we get started on our new project, please send us your feedback. We love to hear how our products are helping others.
